Many bears suffer from conduct disorders, physical deformities and imbalanced social behaviour caused by inappropriate husbandry over years. After the transfer to BÄRENWALD Müritz the animals get castrated and provided with veterinary care – the bear shelter is explicitly not provided for breeding.
After the bears acclimatise to the surroundings the animals will become socialised with other bears of the shelter. Due to this socialising and other activities it is possible to reduce bad conduct disorders. There are special trained keepers and veterinarians who expertly care for the bears.
This project is scientifically attended: The behaviour of each bear is observed and documented. These cognitions provide possibilities to improve the living conditions of the animals and establish the basis for new or other projects like this.
