Tsunami Relief Sri Lanka - FOUR PAWS helps humans and animals
The Tsunami disaster caused enormous suffering among the coastal areas of the affected countries. Many people became homeless and together with them thousands of animals, mostly dogs, stray through the devastated villages. The dogs already show first signs of skin diseases and are in poor physical condition. The outbreak of an epidemic plague and infectious diseases all over the country, like rabies, threatens now both humans and animals!
Targeted vaccination and neutering project
Insufficient hygienic conditions and the lack of clean water worsen the situation. Furthermore the imminence of the outbreak of an epidemic plague threatens the survivors of the Tsunami disaster. Animals who have lost their owners and might be sick continue to wander through the devastated villages.
Only a targeted vaccination and neutering project can eliminate the danger and help humans and animals alike.
A FOUR PAWS team made up of 22 persons, comprised of veterinaries and professional animal keepers, works since the end of January in the municipality of Habaraduwa, near the city Galle, in the South of Sri Lanka.
The team vaccinates dogs that have lost their owners, companion animals, and also domestic animals of the local people. It also neuters ownerless animals to prevent uncontrolled growth of the population. Moreover these animals receive medical treatment against skin diseases and parasites.

Before the dogs get released they are marked and registered.
Since we work in Sri Lanka we have the opportunity to help 5,230 animals with our professional veterinary medication.
