FOUR PAWS welcomes long-awaited phase in of European Union's cosmetic testing ban
The Cosmetics Directive’s 7th amendment states from 11 March 2009 it is illegal:
For cosmetic ingredients to be tested on animals in the EU
To sell into the EU cosmetics products containing ingredients that have been animal-tested outside the EU (regardless of the existence of alternatives, with the exception of three types of toxicity tests which have an extended deadline until 11 March 2013)
A complete sales ban where no animal tests are allowed for cosmetics sold in the EU is due to come into effect in 2013
We are calling on all 27 Member States and the Cosmetic Industry as a whole to show transparency by implementing the legislation rigorously and spearheading support for non animal research.
