16 ways you can #LiveKinder this Earth Day

Find out how you can #LiveKinder

This year we are encouraging everyone to #LiveKinder and tread a little lighter – especially when it comes to our relationship with animals. We can all #LiveKinder. Let’s be kinder in what we eat, kinder in what we do and kinder in how we treat animals and the planet. Every little action can have a huge impact, and collectively we have the power to protect animals and the planet. Whilst we all live through the fallout of COVID-19 we’re aware now more than ever the link between the way we treat animals and the planet and the emergence of global pandemics. Over 75% of pandemics have come from animals, including wildlife and farmed animals. We need to change the way we live. Are you prepared to #LiveKinder?

These changes do not need to be big to make a significant impact. Even a few small steps in the right direction can, and will, make a big difference.

We would like to encourage you to #LiveKinder and have come up with 67 wonderful ways that you can #LiveKinder for animals.

#LiveKinder this Earth Day

  • Pick up trash in your neighborhood, school, local park, or when you are out hiking in nature or at the beach. When you see something, pick it up.
  • Make sure taps are closed properly and never waste water – start by taking shorter showers, saving shower water for watering plants and closing the tap when you brush your teeth.
  • Try not to waste food and compost or even bokashi your food scraps.
  • Recycle and reuse some parts of your trash - especially things like plastic containers, tins, and glass bottles – you could use these as storage containers, to make crafts, or to plant vegetables or flowers in.
  • Put lights off when you are not using them, unplug your iPad or phone charger when it is fully charged, and turn off the TV when you’re not watching.
  • Care for and respect all animals.
  • Plant indigenous and fruit trees if you can.
  • Try to grow your own vegetables and herbs – call it a family garden. And even if you don’t have lot of space you can plant seeds for flowers or food by reusing old plastic containers, tins and bottles.
  • Take your own cloth shopping bags when you do groceries, go to the mall or visit a market.
  • Get a reusable water bottle & coffee cup if possible.
  • If it is safe and, close enough for you and your family, go car-free. Walk or bike to school or work, or a friend, or even to the shop to quickly get a few items — not only is it good for the body but it's also good for the environment!
  • Use non-toxic cleaning products – most shops have non-toxic or green cleaners, or as a family it might even be fun to make your own. Non-toxic cleaners are much better for the environment, but they are also so much better for your whole family.
  • Get creative and celebrate Earth Day by using any kind of materials you find in nature to create an artwork – think of shells, sticks, rocks, leaves, flowers, petals, nuts and sand.
  • Spend time outside by going on a picnic, a hike, visiting a national park or neighborhood park and celebrating Earth!
  • Save trees, and paper, by using both sides of a piece of paper to color, and use scrap paper from old cardboard boxes and other items in the house to colour and make crafts with.
  • Celebrate Earth Day with our awesome Earth Day activities!
