Feelin’ Vegan

Shaun & Cedric

Husbands Shaun and Cedric (aka Feelin' Vegan) started following a vegan diet purely out of love and respect for animals. However, as they started investigating factory farming they realised that their motivation was even larger than this. With livestock (meat and dairy) farming being one of the leading causes of rainforest deforestation, habitat loss and plant species extinction, they realised becoming vegan would not only help save animals, but it would be for the greater good of the planet. They live kinder not only with their food choices but also by only purchasing cruelty-free and vegan personal hygiene and cosmetic products – and strive, as far as possible, to eliminate the use of any product using animal derivatives. They use their Feelin’ Vegan to promote the vegan lifestyle, campaign for animal rights, share triumphs in legislature, sustainable methods and thinking, services and products that help the progress towards a kinder and more respectful world. Shaun loves to bake on weekends. Take a look at his recipe for Vegan Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins.

To her this includes a sincere kindness and a conscious behaviour towards all living creatures and their needs. She feels education is the fundamental step for creating a better future for everyone and its potential is still highly underestimated. Her studies in the field of positive psychology have also cemented her life’s mission: Teach humans how to be kinder to themselves and they will spread kindness in this world. Laila echoes these through her world travels and her ecologically aware fashion label Kind & Wild that was born from the 2020 pandemic that changed the world.

The Green Vegan Chick

Sharné

Sharné - The Green Vegan Chick, is a blogger from Cape Town. 10 years ago she went vegan because she realised that switching to a vegan lifestyle was the most powerful way she could fight against global warming, green house gas emissions, deforestation, pollution, land degradation, species extinctions and animal cruelty!   For the last 3 years she has been on a zero waste journey. By reducing her waste, especially plastic waste, she is doing what she can as a consumer to protect the environment and wildlife from plastic pollution.   She is always looking for more ways to #livekinder and she shares all the aspects of her green vegan lifestyle on her blog   and on Instagram & Facebook, with the hopes of inspiring others to #livekinder   Find her delicious Sauteed Herb Mushrooms and Spinach with Red Pepper sauce over Wild Rice recipe here and visit her website for more.

Xanelé

Xanelé

Xanelé is a Cape Town-based child-centred spatial designer and illustrator, currently working with the Otto Foundation (building libraries and taking a community approach towards fostering a reading culture in Zonnebloem, Woodstock and District Six).  After adopting a plant-based lifestyle (and her first rescue animal) ten years ago, she realised (and internalised) that as an active citizen, there are quotidian opportunities to choose kindness. Ethics and purchasing power is interlinked. Each purchase is a vote that accredits the values embodied in the manufacturing process. In an interconnected world, choosing kindness is a way to show that we care about the environment and each other.  Xanelé personifies "choosing kindness" through ethical consumerism, advocating for rescue animals, cooking plant-based meals for her friends and family with simple ingredients found in most fridges. Food is a loaded concept. Embodying far more than something consumable that provides nutrition and sustenance, food encapsulates culture, history and tradition. Our food habits are also often deeply engrained and what is known feels safe. If you want to start moving towards a plant-based lifestyle, be gentle with yourself. This shift does not have to be brash. You are the author of your own food story. If you do not know anyone else who is plant-based in your inner circle, there is a global online community out there that will support and welcome you with open arms.  See some of her work on Instagram.

Tammy Fry

Tammy Fry

Tammy Fry is the eldest daughter of Wally and Debbie Fry, the founders of the Fry Family Food Co. (the 30-year old plant-based food brand). Tammy has been a non-meat eater her whole life and it was her passion for animals and determination not to use them as a source of food that was the original inspiration behind Fry’s. Wally Fry, motivated by his young daughter’s determination, decided to go vegetarian and started experimenting with plant-based sausages in their home kitchen over three decades ago. The rest, as they say, is history. In 2019 Tammy was named as one of the Top Eight women who are changing the world for animals through food by Female First UK. She is also the director of Meat Free Mondays Australia and South Africa. Tammy’s passion and determination continues today and she is driven to show others the endless possibilities for plant-based living, and how it can enable happier, kinder and more energetic lives. This year she released her first book, Made with Love & Plants, which is chock full of delicious recipes, tips and advice on how to navigate a plant-based journey. Follow her on Instagram, Facebook or on her blog, SEED.
