You Hold the Power to Change Their Future

FOUR PAWS mobilises communities to report big cat exploitation

Cape Town, 23 February 2026 – On World Wildlife Day, observed on 03 March, global animal welfare organisation FOUR PAWS is rallying communities across the country to take an active role in protecting big cats from exploitation. Whether it’s unethical breeding, trading or harmful tourist interactions, these practices continue to threaten animal welfare and conservation efforts.

This call-to-action forms part of FOUR PAWS’ #BreakTheViciousCycle campaign, which aims to end the exploitation of big cats in captivity and promote ethical wildlife practices.

“Your voice can help end the suffering of big cats. Every report matters because it provides vital information that helps us raise awareness, advocate for stronger protections and lobby for legislative change. Together, we can create a future where wildlife is respected and protected.”

Fiona Miles, Director of FOUR PAWS South Africa

Make a difference: Use the big cat reporting tool

FOUR PAWS has developed the big cat reporting tool to make it easy for anyone to report suspected cases of big cat exploitation. This includes:

  • Captive breeding for profit
  • Cub petting or photo opportunities
  • Unethical wildlife tourism activities
  • Illegal trade or transport of big cats

How to use the tool:

  • Visit the big cat reporting tool: Click here to report
  • Provide details: Share what you saw, where it happened and any photos or videos if available.
  • Submit anonymously or with your contact details: Your privacy is respected.

Every report helps FOUR PAWS build a clearer picture of exploitative practices, strengthen advocacy efforts and push for policy change. Additionally, animal cruelty should be reported to SAPS and the NSPCA’s Wildlife Protection Unit.
